Outcomes

In 30 days, we turned Writesonic’s design bottleneck into a growth engine. We revamped onboarding, boosting adoption of their flagship product, Article Writer 6. Our AW6 redesign fixed decision fatigue and friction, leading to a seamless user experience. Writesonic expanded our workstreams, trusting us with customer activation and a new MVP. That MVP is now live, loved by 1,000+ users, and generating six-figure ARR.

Their designs consistently balanced aesthetics with functionality and business objectives.

The Beginning

Conclusion

It was probably the first time we heard this happening in a company.

The developers were 2 months ahead of the designers at Writesonic.

Samanyou, the founder of Writesonic, booked a call with us to discuss how we can come as an external design team to solve their problems.

One month later, design is 1 month ahead of development.

Present day - 6 products designed, 2 websites done, improved UX metrics, and a company loved by millions.

We’re still working with Writesonic but in this case study, I want to highlight what happened in month 1 of us working together.

It’ll give you an idea what our design team extension service looks like and what you can expect out of it if you’re considering it for yourself.

We’re still working with Writesonic & helping them with their suite of products. If you need a reliable design partner who helps you grow your business with design, you know where to reach out ;)

Onboarding & First Win

The Beginning

We kicked things off by onboarding Writesonic’s product, engineering, and design team on Slack.

First impressions are last impressions. And we always make sure ours is perfect.

We treat ourselves not as a design team but a design partner. We work with you to figure out what needs to be fixed.

We kicked off our first project with Writesonic by re-designing their core onboarding flow. Why?

Even though Writesonic was getting 1000s of sign ups every day, their flagship product Article Writer 6 was not being used.

Even though Writesonic was getting 1000s of sign ups every day, their flagship product Article Writer 6 was not being used.

Our goal was to redirect maximum users to use AW6 because the more people use it, the higher their free-to-paid conversion rate.

99% of onboarding issues are fixed by showing users one thing at a time and personalizing the experience for them.

We started off by getting users a taste of the product by getting them as close to AW6 as possible.

In the first 4 days, we onboarded, researched, and designed the new onboarding experience for Writesonic.

Upgrade To Another Workstream

Right after delivering our first handoff file in 4 days, the founder asked to increase a workstream because they loved our work.

Redesigning The Flagship Feature

Onboarding & First Win

Next, we were assigned to redesign the flagship feature of Writesonic - Article Writer 6.

Before designing something, our first objective is to understand the ‘why’ behind it. It reveals the most important problems & lets us be aware of avoiding them.

These kinds of questions really help the team reflect on the core problems & it sparked a long discussion under this Slack thread.

We concluded the three main problems with the current dashboard:

  • There’s too much information overload that’s increasing decision-making difficulty.

  • The backend value prop is not clearly communicated to the users.

  • Certain steps are taking too long.

Within 24 hours, we had the AW6 dashboard designed & delivered.

In 11 days of working together, Sam asked to upgrade to another workstream!

We’re not just designers. We’re problem solvers and we were assigned with a problem faced by a lot of SaaS companies.

“Users sign up but don’t use our product”

We’ve worked on this problem multiple times in the past. It’s almost always because of an expectation mismatch.

Though this isn’t something that we can solve instantly, we started researching in parallel to pin point potential problems & at the same time suggesting relevant solutions for the same.

By the end of our third week together, we were resolving comments, doing qa with developers, and making sure our work is designed & developed perfectly.

Creating a New MVP

Another Workstream Upgrade

In the third week, we were assigned with one of the big responsibilities - a new MVP.

Writesonic wanted to build a product that helps creators grow on LinkedIn.

The good thing is we’re very active on LinkedIn with 10,000 followers - we actively post content so we know all that happens on the platform.

We were given complete ownership of research, brainstorming, and designing. It was like our baby.

The product is now live and already loved by 1000+ & crossed six figures ARR.
